How does equipment like this work? It's a question of the technology present in a specific model. The degree of sophistication involved also helps to determine the cost of a particular device. Some work on the principle of intensifying the small amount of ambient light usually still present in most outdoor situations. Another system uses thermal imaging to detect infra-red light emitted from an object to create a pattern which is transformed into a viewable image. When comparing different models, you may come across different ratings such as 1st, 2nd or even 3rd Generation equipment. These labels refer to the different kinds of technology employed in the image intensification system. Many of the more affordable night vision solutions use Generation 1 equipment. Some models include features such as waterproofing or the facility to attach the device to headgear, thus leaving your hands free. The monocular option is also popular. These days, there's a wide range of nightvision binocular equipment to suit different purposes and budgets. They have become practical and worthwhile instruments for a variety of work-related and recreational purposes.
